Federal authorities have successfully dismantled a major drug trafficking operation involving Mexican cartels, resulting in the seizure of thousands of pounds of illicit substances and the arrest of twelve individuals with alleged ties to the mafia. The operation, which spanned three countries and utilized internet-based smuggling techniques, has shed light on the global nature of drug trafficking and the involvement of highly sophisticated criminal organizations.
The joint operation, carried out by the FBI, the Los Angeles Police Department, US Customs and Border Protection, and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, targeted a vast drug trafficking network that covered thousands of miles from Mexico through the United States and into Canada. The culmination of their efforts led to the confiscation of nearly 2,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 2,000 pounds of cocaine, and 44 pounds of fentanyl. These drugs have an estimated street value of at least 16 million dollars.

The smugglers, operating primarily from Canada, relied on a network of long-haul truck drivers to transport the drugs. These drivers would pick up the Mexican-supplied narcotics in Los Angeles and proceed to Canada through various crossings such as the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel, the Buffalo Peace Bridge, and the Blue Water Bridge. This particular modus operandi proved to be highly lucrative for the conspirators, as the street value of certain drugs, such as methamphetamine, is significantly higher in Canada compared to Los Angeles.
Law enforcement officials stress that this operation was not limited to a few isolated individuals but involved a much larger conspiracy. Charges were unsealed against a total of 19 individuals, with twelve already in custody. The remaining seven individuals, who are currently being sought by the authorities, are expected to be apprehended in due course.
