Work stopped at the Times this morning after a blackbird winged its way into deputy editor Keith Blackmore's office. Fortunately he was out but the experts had to be called in - Derwent May, the Times' resident twitcher and Lewis Smith, the paper's environment reporter, who tried to capture the poor thing in a brown bag. Unfortunately the feathered friend was too quick, with Times editor James Harding, flanked by a, er … flock of leader writers looking on mightily concerned as the hacks flailed around. Eventually the bird was bagged by Lewis and let out to freedom outside. The mess that was left was apparently "not a pretty sight", Monkey understands. Could this be an omen of some sort?
