Aussie politician Bob Katter has sent the internet into hysterics once again, and this time around it’s not because of his beef with vegan pies or the Irwin family. Instead, it was the material he was caught reading while waiting for a plane.
In the quirky world that is AusPol and the Internet, Katter has found himself at the centre of another meme-frenzy after he was snapped reading a book at an airport waiting lounge.
Pretty normal, right? Waiting for a flight with a good ol’ book to keep ya entertained, right?
Well, it was what Katter was reading that caught people’s eye… The 80-year-old conservative politician was snapped reading his 2012 book, An Incredible Race Of People: A Passionate History of Australia, that features a full-body image of him on the cover.

According to news.com.au, the hilarious image was first shared on Reddit before it made its way to a popular Facebook Group, where it left its members both entertained and bamboozled.
“Please tell me this photo is real? This is amazing,” one member commented, the publication reports.
Recently, it set X (formerly Twitter) alight after The Betoota Advocate reshared the image, writing “Katterception”.

Since the hilarious (and lowkey relatable) photo went viral, folks have come forward with their own puns, with one person even accusing the politician of “performative reading”.
“Me reading my own tweets at the breakfast table,” one person wrote.

And of course, with the rise of AI images, memes and clips — you know, those oddly entertaining AI videos with the fully jacked cats — some folks questioned the legitimacy of the odd snap.
So… is this real?
Is the image of Bob Katter reading his own book real?
For once, AI does not see victory!!!
Speaking to news.com.au, Elise Nucifora, Katter’s chief of staff, confirmed that the hilarious image was the real deal.
“It’s real and Bob often likes to re-read sections of his book,” she said, before adding that Katter “needed to recharge the aquifers [a layer of rock or sediment holding water] of his soul”, hence why he was reading his own material.
Safe to say, if he isn’t beefing with crocs or taking aim at pagan rituals, the bloke loves to read… his own books.
