Fears woman trapped after car smashes into bollard in Liscard crash

Firefighters were called amid fears a woman was trapped in her vehicle after it smashed into a bollard during a two-car crash.

Emergency services were called after the smash involving a Toyota RAV4 and Peugeot 208 in Wallasey Road in Liscard today.

Police confirmed the Toyota "hit a bollard" at the side of the road during the crash around 12 noon.

A Peugeot "driving behind the Toyota" was also caught up in the crash, a police spokeswoman added.

Two fire engines and a search and rescue appliance was among vehicles dispatched amid fears one of the occupants was stuck in the Toyota.

However ambulance staff were able to help her out of the car and she was taken to hospital for further checks.

A second occupant was checked over by paramedics at the scene.

Police said although "shaken up" the woman driving the Peugeot is not believed to have been seriously hurt in the crash which temporarily closed the road due to the debris.

Confirming their involvement a Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said they were on scene within five minutes after reports a vehicle had hit "road side furniture".

She added: "Two occupants were in the vehicle both conscious and breathing and assisted out of the vehicle by North West Ambulance Service. One person was taken to hospital for assessment and a second person was checked over the scene.

The crash comes just over a week since a car crashed through a Wetherspoons window on the same road narrowly missing dozens of pedestrians.

Emergency services were called to The Clairville on Wallasey Road in Liscard after the red Vauxhall Corsa smashed into the front of the pub on April 7.

Witnesses at the scene said that the incident happened at around 1pm and that diners were sat at tables inside the pub when the car crashed.
