Fears Turkey may be next country added to quarantine list

There are fears Turkey may be the next country taken off the UK's safe travel list - meaning anyone returning from a break in the popular destination would need to quarantine for 14 days.

Turkey's new coronavirus cases rose to their highest since June at 1,256, with 21 deaths in the last 24 hours, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Saturday.

The country has now recorded a total of 278,117 cases of Covid-19 with 5,955 deaths.

Turkey already has its own strict measures for people arriving there, including temperature checks at the airport, reports The Mirror.

Anyone who is found to have the coronavirus is forced to quarantine, sometimes at their own expense.

Any country which has more than 20 new cases per 100,000 population is placed on the UK government's watchlist.

Currently there are 18.5 infections per 100,000 people in Turkey, The Sun reports.

This is a rise on the 15.8 recorded last month.

Turkey lifted a partial lockdown on June 1 and plans to re-open schools next month.

If Turkey is put onto the ban list, then tour operators and airlines will most likely stop flights and holidays.

They will then offer a refund or credit note.

Thousands of Brits' holidays were thrown into disarray earlier this week when several more countries were added to the quarantine list.

From 4am Saturday morning everyone heading back to the UK from France, Netherlands, Monaco, Malta, Turks and Caicos, and Aruba had to isolate for 14 days.
