Fears that man 'was looking to kidnap baby' in Fishponds

A man has issued a warning after an incident in Fishponds left his partner fearing a potential kidnapping of their baby.

Avon and Somerset police have confirmed they are investigating a report a man approached a woman and her child on Fishponds Road at around 2.15pm on September 6.

The baby's father posted about the incident in the Staple Hill and Mangotsfield Residents Facebook group.

He wrote: "My partner and 10-month-old baby were approached by a man acting very suspiciously whilst queuing to pay in a hairdressers in Fishponds.

"The man, who had previously been watching my partner and baby through the shop window for several minutes, abruptly asked how old our baby was.

"The way he was acting alerted a number of staff and customers which the man seemed to acknowledge. At this point he quickly left the shop to join a woman outside with an empty pram.

"The way the events unfolded made my partner feel as if the man was looking kidnap our child, so we have reported this to the police."

Police say they would like to speak to the man to "fully understand the interaction".

The man is described as white, in his 50s, with grey hair and a beard. He was wearing a check shirt over a navy coloured T-shirt and jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to phone 101 and tell the call handler they are phoning in relation to log 352 of September 8.
