Fears over cat baiting in east Leeds as dog seized by police

Police have launched an investigation after they seized a dog suspected to be used for cat baiting in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Police took the dog following a warrant executed under the Dangerous Dog Act in Seacroft, on Thursday September 3.

The warrant was performed after reports of the dog’s association with cat baiting and it was also said to be "displaying a violent nature” towards other animals.

A spokesperson said: “On Thursday 3rd September 2020, Officers from Inner East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team seized a dog following a warrant executed under the Dangerous Dog Act in Seacroft, Leeds.

“The warrant was executed due to local information, concerns and reports received of the dog suspected to be associated in cat baiting and displaying a violent nature towards other animals in the area.

“The investigation is on-going at this time.”
