Fears of 'large-scale fight with weapons and knives' between youths in Cardiff this weekend

Police patrols in Cardiff city centre are being stepped up this weekend after details of a meet up between groups from different areas of the city was shared widely.

South Wales Police confirmed it had been made aware of a "planned gathering of youths in central Cardiff this weekend which had been circulating on social media."

A local group that has been set up to combat knife crime said: "We have been receiving reports of groups of kids from all different areas meeting to have a large-scale fight with weapons and knives.

"Please educate your kids and keep them safe."

They said there had been reports of a "postcode war" in town over the weekend with groups from Gabalfa, Grangetown, Tremorfa and Riverside involved.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "We will be increasing police patrols in the city to ensure the safety of the public."

He added: "We’d like to thank the public who have already made us aware of these posts

"Any anti-social or illegal behaviour will not be tolerated and dealt with robustly."
