Fears of 'body wrapped in clingfilm' dispelled after police search tracks

An area of undergrowth was searched in Birkenhead after a report was received of a body wrapped up in cling film.

Police were seen in the area of Wirral Met College's Conway Park campus in Adelphi Street, at around 1pm, where they were examining an old rail track.

But it turned out to have an innocent explanation. Merseyside Police spokesperson said: "Police were in attendance in the area of Adelphi Street, Birkenhead, today (Wednesday, March 17) after it was reported that what appeared to be a body wrapped up in cling film had been found.

"The report was made in good faith at around 12.55pm but on inspection it was found not to be a body but some old ducting waste."

If you find something that looks suspicious, do not hesitate to contact police - either DM @MerPolCC on Twitter, message 'Merseyside Police Contact Centre' on Facebook or call 101.
