Fears for Yasmeen as she takes the stand for attempted murder on Coronation Street

Coronation Street's Yasmeen Metcalfe looks terrified as she takes the stand accused of attempting to murder her husband Geoff.

There are fears the grandmother, played by Shelley King, might go to prison for stabbing abusive Geoff in dramatic scenes on the ITV soap.

In a first-look Corrie clip her granddaughter Alya says she's worried Yasmeen might not cope if she's sent down.

Her solicitor Imran Habeeb explains that Yasmeen has no previous history of offending and she surrendered to police after lashing out at Geoff.

"They can't keep her locked up, she won't cope look at her," says Alya played by Sair Khan.

Geoff, played by Ian Bartholomew, was bullying and manipulating Yasmeen for months as part of a harrowing coercive control plot.

He placed CCTV in their home and cooked her pet chicken.

She snapped and stabbed him after he forced her to wear a dress bought for one of his escorts.

He made her go to the Rovers Return and meet family and friends in the racy dress and back at home hurled chips at Yasmeen and taunted her.

Yasmeen grabbed a wine bottle and hit him on the head before sticking the broken end of it into Geoff's neck.

Believing she had killed him she phoned 999 but he turned out to be alive, and when he came round in hospital he yelled that Yasmeen had tried to kill him.

Coronation Street is set to delve into the backstory of the Metcalfe family as evil Geoff’s treatment of his wife starts to unravel.

The ITV soap’s boss Iain MacLeod has confirmed viewers will finally get a glimpse of his son Tim’s upbringing while finding out that this is far from Geoff's first abusive relationship.
