Fears eased over Bristol City loanee's potential season-ending injury

Aberdeen are optimistic over the prognosis of Zak Vyner's shoulder injury.

The defender moved to the Dons on loan from Bristol City in the summer as he looks to continue his development.

He has put in some promising performances in Scotland, but he missed the majority of November through a shoulder injury, which reoccurred during the Dons' 1-1 draw with Hearts on December 29.

At the time, Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes said he would be in contact with the Robins over fears Vyner may need surgery to correct the issue, which would end his season.

"Zak has done his shoulder for the second time so obviously there is a concern there," McInnes said to the Evening Express.

"The last time Zak was out for three weeks and the specialist said he didn’t need the operation.

"There will be a revisit to the specialist and between ourselves and Bristol City we will make a decision on what is best for Zak.

"I think there is a real risk he will maybe need the operation that was maybe suggested prior.

"I think there is a real risk he will maybe need the operation. That would mean Zak would be out for the season."

However, the Scottish Sun , report that, whilst the 22-year-old will miss the Dons' mid-season winter trip to Dubai in order to see a shoulder specialist, they are now more optimistic that he will not require surgery on the issue.
