Fears coronavirus outbreak could threaten Ireland's Six Nations match with Italy

The IRFU will follow government advice as the coronavirus outbreak could threaten Ireland's Six Nations match with Italy.

Andy Farrell's team are due to welcome the Azzuri to Dublin in less than two weeks on March 7.

But there are fears as five thousand Italian fans are set to travel to Ireland for the match.

Over 200 people have been infected with coronavirus in Italy and seven people have already died in the past 48 hours.

The outbreak in the north of the country has already derailed Ulster's PRO14 clash with Benetton this weekend, while Zebre v Ospreys has also been postponed.

The IRFU told the Irish Mirror today: “The Ireland v Italy fixtures scheduled for the weekend of 6 (U20s) , 7 (Men) and 8 (Women) of March remain as scheduled.

"The IRFU will follow government advice on such fixtures.”
