Works have been ongoing at the site on Altcar Road, which was formerly occupied by MJ's Steakhouse - a 24-hour drive-thru, which unexpectedly closed its doors in 2016.
But people are concerned children may run across the bypass - which has a speed limit of 60mph - to get to McDonald's.

Following a campaign from Formby Labour councillors Catie Page and Nina Killen, and the town's MP Bill Esterson, Sefton Council agreed it would install a light-signalled pedestrian crossing near to the restaurant.
But with just 12 days to go until it is due to open, works have not yet begun.
Formby Labour councillor Nina Killen said: "I believe the crossing will be installed at the end of April.
"This will make it far safer to cross as there was previously no pedestrian crossing across Altcar Road.
"Many residents have contacted me asking about building a bridge and if funds were available that would be an ideal solution. Unfortunately at this time there is no funding available to build a bridge but if local authority funding increased in the future this safety improvement could be considered."
A spokesman for Sefton Council said: "We are currently exploring procurement options with the view of installing a controlled pedestrian crossing at the east side of Altcar Road, Formby.
"These works would also include an upgrade of existing infrastructure which will be necessary in providing any new crossing."
Formby McDonald's is due to open on Wednesday, April 17.
The new restaurant will feature 'the latest innovations from McDonald's' - including self-service kiosks - and will be one of the first in the country to have new digital menu boards at its drive-thru.
There will also be an outside patio seating area, a soft play area and an arts and crafts space.
