FEARmanagh adventure race to take place this month as part of Continental National Adventure Series 2021

The eighth annual FEARmanagh Adventure Race is due to take place this year with a new sponsor being announced for the event.

FEAR is part of the Continental National Adventure Race Series 2021 and features a number of disciplines, including running, cycling and kayaking in some of the most scenic areas of Co Fermanagh.

The event course encompasses the scenic surroundings of Derrygonnelly and West Fermanagh. It is run over two distances, the long course measuring 74km and the short course which covers 35km.

Starting and finishing at Derrygonnelly Community Centre, the scenic but challenging race route will take participants through Cuilcagh Lakelands UNESCO Global Geopark and sites including the hills of Knockmore, Big Dog Forest, the Lough Navar viewpoint and cliff path, as well as Magho shore and Garrison village.

For 2021, the race limit has been set at 500 participants, with 200 places remaining.

Speaking about the event, Chair of Fermanagh and Omagh District Council Errol Thompson said it was important to encourage fitness and wellbeing during challenging times.

Cllr Thompson added: “FEARmanagh is one of the most important and challenging events in the annual Council events calendar – encouraging health and fitness and well-being which is particularly important in these challenging times while also promoting the stunning landscapes on offer throughout the Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark.

"We welcome the continued commitment of our title sponsors Erne Lifting Services and look forward to developing this key partnership with an established local business.”

Husband and wife team Adrian and Imelda Gartland, of Erne Lifting Services, who have participated in FEARmanagh on several occasions, said they were glad to support a local event which takes place on Saturday, September 25.

They said: “As a locally-based business we are delighted to play a role in supporting an event that showcases our County in such a positive way.

"We have both taken part in the race on many occasions and we are pleased to be able to continue our association with the race and we are especially delighted to sponsor the King and Queen of the Hill trophies awarded to the fastest male and female competitors to ascend the Magho Cliff Path.”
