'Fearless and wild' lad loves his big sis

Brave Boy: Jagger in hospital with sister Scarlett supporting him.

Jagger Mann is only three, but he's a brave lad. Plus he has his sister Scarlett to support him.

"Scarlett is my best friend in the world and I love her so much," he said.

The Newcastle boy has been through two brain surgeries, spending over a month in hospital.

He's described as a "fearless and wild" boy. He's also an ambassador for Starlight Children's Foundation. He's giving back to the foundation that helped make his time in hospital fun.

Jagger is now back doing what he loves, riding his scooter and jumping on the trampoline with his sister. He's hoping to add soccer to his list of fun outdoor activities.

Jagger was diagnosed with Craniosynostosis when he was just nine months. He underwent corrective surgery on his skull.

Two years later, during an MRI, doctors found a separate brain condition and diagnosed him with Chiari malformation.

The bubbly three-year-old was back in hospital undergoing surgery to correct the crowding in his brain. Jagger missed Scarlett terribly. He craved fun and laughter.

Amid the fear and sadness, Captain Starlight arrived with some fun and happiness, helping Jagger cope with hospital.

Every time Scarlett visited her little brother in hospital, they couldn't wait to go to the Starlight Express Room to play together.

"The room made such a difference to Jagger's recovery," his mum Chantele Mann said.

Chantele said Jagger loves being outdoors and jumping high on the trampoline.

"He is always climbing and jumping, he loves to ride his scooter and bike as fast as he can and just has no fear of anything. He loves to be pushed on the swings at the park.

"Jagger will always put his fear aside and try something. At our local park there is a rope bridge and the first time he saw it he was scared to go across, but I stood next to him and he walked across so carefully. Now every time we go to the park, it's the first thing he loves to do.

"Jagger is scared when we go to the hospital for check-ups, but knows that he can visit the captains in the Starlight Express Room after."

But hospitals are scary places for kids.

"Having Starlight there makes such a difference," she said.

"Jagger remembers going to the Starlight room every day while he was in Westmead Children's Hospital. It was so lovely watching him smile and play while we were there."

Chantele said Jagger is "a sweet and kind-hearted little boy".

"He loves his bulldog Pepper and is always cuddling her. Jagger loves helping me cook in the kitchen and at every opportunity he will be on my lap giving me a cuddle."

Her son amazes her every day with his bravery and resilience.

"No matter what, Jagger is always smiling and laughing. I am so lucky to be his mum."

From November 15 to 28, Starlight is aiming to raise $250,000 over a 14-day challenge to bring some happiness to 6400 sick kids.
