Fearful bookies pull Aberdeen's clash with St Johnstone as punters pile on Saints after virus bombshell

Desperate bookies scrambled to pull betting on crisis-hit Aberdeen's clash St Johnstone after punters lumped on a win for the Perth side.

The Dons will be without EIGHT players for Saturday's visit to Perth after two positive coronavirus tests among Derek McInnes ' squad also forced a further six stars into a fortnight's self-isolation.

The measures follow the players being involved in a night out in the city's virus-hit boozers on Saturday.

St Johnstone were originally 2/1 to win the game, but the price collapsed when news broke of the outbreak and a flood of cash went on a Saints win before bookmakers could react.

By the time the market returned, St Johnstone were restored as heavy odds-on favorites at 8/15, with Aberdeen drifting out to 4/1 to win.

McBookie.com spokesman Paul Petrie said: "Punters were lightning fast to react when the story came out and raced on to back St Johnstone at the original prices.

"Obviously, Aberdeen will be severely hampered with the loss of eight key men and that's now reflected on the prices for the new market."
