FCO travel advice changes to allow Brits to holiday in low-risk countries

Brits will be able to travel to a number of low risk countries without having to quarantine when they return.

Since mid-March, the Foreign Office has warned against all non-essential travel overseas due to the pandemic.

But now the advice has been updated to exempt a number of countries from July 4.

The FCO website says: "From 4 July our travel advice will change, with exemptions for travelling to certain countries that no longer pose a high risk for British travellers.

"We are monitoring the international situation very closely and keeping this advice under constant review so that it reflects our latest assessment of risks to British people.

"We take a range of factors into account. For coronavirus,  this includes  the incidence rate and the resilience of healthcare provision in each country."

The air bridge list will come into force next Friday on July 10 and will only apply to travellers from England.

Countries including Spain, France, Italy and Germany are now on the list of places Brits can enjoy a summer holiday this year.

People arriving from these four countries will no longer have to quarantine for 14 days.

Currently Spain, Germany and Italy have no quarantine rules on arriving Brits, and France’s is only voluntary.

However, the agreement is only one-way.

That means holidaymakers could find themselves forced to quarantine when they arrive at their holiday destination.
