FC Zenit's message about Kurt Zouma has got Everton fans going wild amid social media campaign

He impressed on loan at Everton last season - and it is clear what Toffees fans want when it comes to Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.

The Frenchman enjoyed an impressive spell on loan at Goodison Park last season, with the 24-year-old a regular in Marco Silva's side as the Merseyside outfit finished in eighth position in the Premier League.

He has since returned to Chelsea and has featured in pre-season, with Blues head coach Frank Lampard recently speaking of how impressed he has been with Zouma, and what his hopes are for the Frenchman in west London.

“In terms of Kurt Zouma, he’s a very good defender for us, very good player, very good person and professional," he said.

“I want him here, simple as that. We are competitive with the centre-backs we have in the team and he had a very good season at Everton and I can understand why they want him.

"He is working really hard and if he competes for a position and plays well this season he plays."

Despite this, Everton continue to be linked with a move to sign Zouma again, with the Times recently reporting that the Toffees had approached Chelsea to see if they would be open to another loan spell for the defender.

And Everton fans have launched a campaign on social media to try and drive the move for Zouma, with supporters responding to a series of Twitter posts with the hashtag "FreeZouma".

The tweets have been plenty in number, with the hashtag trending in the UK on Twitter, and it has gone beyond that, with Russian side Zenit St Petersburg tweeting a message to Everton from the club's English account this afternoon (Friday).

The message, which follows Zenit's signing of forward Malcom from Barcelona, reads: "Hey @Everton, now Malcom's here, you gonna go for Zouma? #FreeZouma

And the post has got Everton fans talking, with many responding to the Russian club on the social networking website.

Here's a selection of what some Everton fans have been saying.
