FC Utrecht confirm Man City have signed young goalkeeper Mikki van Sas

FC Utrecht have confirmed that Manchester City have signed 16-year-old goalkeeper Mikki van Sas for their academy.

The teenager was under contract with the Dutch club until 2022 but the Blues have struck a deal to bring him to the Etihad Campus, where he is expected to link up with the youth teams in time for next season.

“We say goodbye to Mikki with mixed feelings. On the one hand, we regret that Mikki, an incredibly talented goalkeeper, leaves our academy. We would of course have liked to see Mikki shine in the Galgenwaard Stadium, which is what we train for,” technical director Jordy Zuidam told the club site.

“On the other hand, Mikki said that he really wanted to make this move and we also see his transfer to Manchester City as a compliment to our youth academy. This transition confirms the elevated level of the academy. We have reached an agreement with Manchester City on the transfer terms and all parties are satisfied. We wish Mikki every success in England.”

City's academy is undergoing considerable change this summer, with the appointment of new Under-18 and Under-23 coaches expected to take charge of the two teams closest to the first team.

The academy season was ended prematurely as a result of the pandemic but a number of youngsters are currently training with Pep Guardiola's first team squad ahead of the resumption of the Premier League next week; City take on Arsenal next Wednesday in their first game back.
