FC United secured promotion to the Conference North with a 1-0 win over Stourbridge.

The breakaway club were founded as a direct result of the Glazer family’s takeover of Manchester United, and have now earned a fourth promotion in their 10-year history.

FC United secured promotion when Greg Daniels’ header was enough to beat Stourbridge 1-0 in front of a crowd of 3,588.

Karl Marginson, the club’s manager, said: “The Football League is possible. Most clubs would give anything to have the size of support we have. There will be obstacles to overcome but we have proved to be capable of that over the last 10 years.”

The club, wholly owned and run by their supporters, became champions of the Evostik Northern Premier League with their victory on Tuesday night.

The promotion means FC United will play in the same league as Stockport County, who were in League One as recently as the 2009-10 season, with the Football League just two promotions away.
