FC Edinburgh sign ex-Hamilton defender Kieran MacDonald

Ex-Hamilton defender Kieran MacDonald has joined League One outfit FC Edinburgh.

The 28-year-old joined Hamilton from Raith Rovers last summer, netting twice in 37 appearances, and left the club last week to concentrate on ‘his own employment needs’.

It's believed that MacDonald, who has also played for Clyde and Airdrie, wants to go part-time. The Rutherglen-born left-back returned to full-time football when re-joining Accies on condition that they accommodated his engineering contract.

MacDonald made 54 appearances throughout his two spells at New Douglas Park between 2014-15 and 2021-22.

FC Edinburgh boss Alan Maybury said: “We are delighted to sign Kieran and get a player of his quality shows where we are as a club. He is an attacking left-wing back who will add quality and experience. It’s an exciting time at FC Edinburgh and we are delighted Kieran has chosen to be a part of that.”

MacDonald added: “I am delighted to be here. I spoke with the manager and the board and they told me their plans for the team and the club going forward. They’re both very positive and ambitious in their vision for the future of the club and I can’t wait to get started.”
