FC Copenhagen player Michael Santos charged over assault of police officer during Celtic game

A player for Danish side FC Copenhagen has been charged in connection with the assault of a police officer during last night's Europa League tie against Celtic.

The incident involving Uruguayan striker Michael Santos allegedly occurred as his side celebrated going 2-1 up at Celtic Park in the 85th minute of the match.

Police have confirmed that the 26-year-old and a 42-year-old member of the FC Copenhagen backroom staff have been charged with assault.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Two men aged 26 and 42 were charged in connection with an alleged assault at Celtic Park last night.

"They have been reported to the Procurator Fiscal".

Celtic lost the Round of 32 match 3-1 on the night, with Copenhagen progressing to the last 16 of the competition 4-2 on aggregrate.
