Now is your chance to solve the murder of Notorious BIG. Fourteen years years after the death of Christopher "Biggie" Wallace, the FBI has released more than 100 pages linked to the unsolved case. Though the investigation closed in 2005, the Bureau has unveiled its records following repeated Freedom of Information Act requests.
Biggie was gunned down in Los Angeles on 9 March 1997, after leaving a party at the Petersen Automotive Museum. A black Chevrolet Impala SS pulled up beside the rapper's GMC Suburban, firing into the vehicle and hitting him four times in the chest. He was pronounced dead about 30 minutes later.
The FBI launched a civil rights probe into the killing, according to the LA Times, spending eight years on the case. Many theories have posited that Biggie's death was linked to the murder of Tupac Shakur, who was shot less than six months earlier. In 2010, a judge dismissed a wrongful death suit filed by the Biggie's family, which alleged that Los Angeles officials had covered up police involvement in his murder.
Citizen investigators can now pore over the FBI's heavily redacted file, which includes information on the "very rare" Gecko 9mm ammunition and its possible sources. The Smoking Gun has highlighted items found on Biggie after his death, including marijuana in a plastic bag, an asthma inhaler and three condoms, noted as "magnum" and "larger size".
Earlier this year, CNN reported that the LAPD's Notorious BIG investigation had been "reinvigorated" by fresh leads. It is reportedly working with the FBI and the LA County district attorney's office on new information. Specifics of these developments have not been disclosed.
