The investigation involves the Justice Department reopening an old case related to Bolton's book and exploring other possible leaks. Vice President JD Vance denied political motivation, stating that the operation is driven by the law.
Bolton, a vocal critic of Trump's foreign policy, has been targeted by the administration, including having his Secret Service detail terminated. The Justice Department previously investigated Bolton over possible unlawful disclosure of classified information in his memoir.
