ATLANTA _ The FBI was investigating after a suspicious package addressed to the CNN Center in Atlanta was intercepted Monday morning at a downtown post office.
Just before 9:40 a.m., Atlanta police responded to the post office on 400 Pryor Street after learning about the package, department spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said in a statement.
"The FBI will be taking lead on this incident," he said.
In a statement, FBI spokesman Kevin Rowson said the federal agency's bomb squad was responding to the scene.
"We were notified by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service," he said. "No other details at this point."
CNN president Jeff Zucker told employees in a statement that "there is no imminent danger to the CNN Center."
All mail to CNN is being screened at off-site facilities, he said.
"Our screening process is working and we will keep you updated as we learn more," Zucker said.
The investigation comes just days after officials said a Florida man mailed explosive packages to current and former political figures around the country as well as the CNN building in New York. Over the past week, tensions were high as buildings around the country were put on lockdown and the packages were located.
