FBI agents say government shutdown could threaten national security

The FBI Agents Association sent a petition to the White House and congressional leaders Thursday urging them to come to an agreement to fund the FBI immediately.

Why it matters: The association said that "FBI leadership is doing all it can to fund FBI operations with increasingly limited resources," but that the situation is "not sustainable." Pay freezes stemming from the shutdown could make it harder for the agency to recruit and retain agents, ultimately posing a threat to national security.
