Fayre day's work for Lanarkshire councillor as he steps into Santa's shoes to bring some Christmas cheer

A Lanarkshire politician brought some festive cheer to his constituents as he stepped into Santa’s shoes for the day.

Councillor Kenneth Duffy, who represents the Motherwell South East and Ravenscraig ward, was happy to take on the formidable role of the jovial Mr Claus at a special Christmas event which took place at Hoy Gardens.

He donned the red suit and beard as the street in the Ravenscraig estate hosted 'Fayre in the Square' last Sunday.

The event included a great range of Christmas stalls alongside a host of different activities for families to enjoy.

Councillor Duffy told Lanarkshire Live : “It was fantastic – given the pandemic and everything that’s been going on, it gave everybody something to be involved in and be part of the community.”

This is the first year that the community has hosted such an event and it was hailed such a great success that there are already plans to do it all again next year.

Organiser Samantha Smart said: “Thank you to everyone who was involved behind the scenes to make the event a success.

"It was a busy day, I hope everyone had a great time and we can do it again next year”.
