Fayette County clerk challenges her former colleagues to spread the word about early voting

Early voting begins Thursday across the Commonwealth. No-excuse voting continues Friday and Saturday before Election Day casting of ballots on Tuesday. Fayette County Clerk Susan Lamb made an early voting pitch during her time before the Lexington City Council this week. A former Council member herself, Lamb asked city leaders to spread the word about these opportunities.

“If we raise the numbers and the percentages of those that turn out Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, November second, third, and fourth, then we hopefully will get to keep these early voting days. If we don’t show up, we could lose them,” said Lamb.

Lamb said state lawmakers will be getting a report on Kentuckians’ use of early voting days. Lexington will also have four vote centers during early voting. They are at the Senior Center and Eastside, Northside, and Tates Creek library branches. Lamb said the three additional vote centers should help lessen waits.

“In 2022, the General Election, we had the Senior Center and it took 37 minutes to walk through the process to vote at Senior Center. In 2023 in the Primary at Kroger Field, it took five minutes and of course you know I want to increase our voter turnout,” said Lamb.

Council members viewed a video on vote centers. Among the information conveyed was that voting centers could be close to home, close to work, or close to an errand-running location. Lamb has talked previously about expanding vote centers at some point to include Election Day opportunities.
