Faye Brooks prepares for her wedding with a vampire facial

Bride-to-be Faye Brookes prepared for her big day by having a vampire facial.

The Coronation Street star received the facial which includes a vitamin drip, followed by taking of the blood from the arm and then microneedling with the red blood cells and plasma, to prepare her skin for her upcoming nuptials with former Pop Idol singer Gareth Gates.

Kim Kardashian West put the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment on the map in 2013 with a selfie of her vampire facial, which sees a doctor draw a small amount of the patients' own blood and extract the platelet-rich plasma which contains active proteins for tissue healing and growth stimulation. The PRP is then injected back into the skin.

The Flixton actress announced the shock news on Twitter, saying: "Thanks to everyone for your amazing support, but after 4 fabulous years in Weatherfield it's time for me to explore new opportunities, I've loved playing Kate Connor, but she needs a break for a little while and so with a song in my heart I'm off to pastures new."

Faye has played a major part in the soap after her on-screen fiancée Rana Habeeb was killed off in the devastating Underworld factory roof collapse in March, and her character Kate has recently been crossing swords with her stepmother Jenny Bradley after moving into the Rovers Return.

In February Faye was snapped at a wedding fair looking at dresses, invites and flowers.

And she and Gareth have chosen a surprise officiator for their upcoming nuptials - Holly Willoughby’s sister Kelly.

Gareth, who shot to fame in the singing show Pop Idol in 2002, popped the question at a friend’s high-rise apartment in New York with a four-carat diamond ring.

He then went on to play a song that he had written for his future bride on a grand piano.

Describing the song he sang to the Flixton-raised actress, Gareth told OK! magazine: "‘It was all about the six years we’ve spent together and I incorporated bits of songs that mean a lot to us as a couple. I got a bit carried away though – it went on for 17 minutes."

The couple met in 2012 when former musical theatre star Faye, who plays Kate Connor in Corrie, played leading lady Elle Woods in Legally Blonde the Musical and Gareth played her boyfriend, Warner.

They celebrated their engagement at a lavish ceremony at Manchester's Hotel Gotham in January.

Last year the pair split for two-months and got back together in October.

Gareth explained in OK! Magazine: "There was a lot of strain on our relationship because I was always away with work and Faye’s schedule was getting even busier so we decided we needed some breathing space"
