Faye Brookes in tears as she reveals her brother's cancer battle on Dancing On Ice

Faye Brookes has had an emotional ride on Dancing On Ice and she was in tears ahead of her latest routine as she revealed her brother's battle with leukaemia.

The former Coronation Street star welled up as she recalled how her younger sibling was diagnosed with leukaemia when he was just nine.

At the time Faye, from Flixton, was 14.

Remembering the moment her mum Inger broke the devastating news she said: "I didn't want that for him.

"I didn't want him to suffer."

Leukaemia is a cancer of the white blood cell and fortunately Jack was given the all-clear at 18.

Faye, 33, who played Kate Connor in Corrie, decided to dedicate her second semi-final performance on the ITV celeb skating contest to Jack.

She skated to Simply The Best, performed by James Bay, in his honour with her professional skating partner Matt Evers.

"He did get through it," she said.

"The fact he got given a second chance at life that is what my second skate is all about."

The idea of the second skate was celebs performing something personal and special to them.

And the moving performance scooped Faye a perfect score of 40 from the judges, her best in the contest so far.

"We've been waiting for this skate," said head judge Christopher Dean.

"We've been waiting for Faye to come back and show us this.

"It was pure skating. Beautiful skating. You were simply the best."

And fellow judge John Barrowman said: "The purity on the ice was just perfection."

Faye has had a rocky time on the show after her previous skating partner Hamish Gaman was forced to pull out due to a finger injury.

He snapped a tendon while putting on a sock and was recently seen with his injured finger worn in a splint at Salford Quays.

Hamish was signed off to perform by the show's medical team as safe to skate with some adjustments to the routine.

But after a follow-up examination medical experts concluded he was unable to continue in the contest to safeguard against any long-term damage.

Viewers have also accused the judges of under-scoring Faye in the competition.

Earlier in the series judge John admitted that the judges were 'nit-picking' because of her ability.
