Fay Maschler

Fay Maschler's week in food, from Chutney Mary to Fischer's

Dry-fried ho fun with beef at Stick & Bowl which opened in Kensington in 1971, a year before I started restaurant reviewing. I like to think we are both still going strong. They are.

Staying in Provence with Kate & Tom Weisselberg, lovely surfboards of courgettes dotted with pine kernels and tranches of salmon blistered on the barbecue.

Snacking at Curzon Victoria before Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (fantastic), I am impressed by the lively, lumpy, homemade quality of guacamole and hummus.

I remain entranced by the cooking at Chutney Mary. Standouts this time are slow-roast Creedy Carver duck Jardaloo with apricot, chilli, jaggery and vinegar and pressed watermelon with tamarind and curry leaf dressing.

Deliberating about joining a gym in Marylebone, I trot off more confidently to lunch at Fischer’s starting with various rye sourdough brötchen.
