Hello and welcome to the Sweet 16 of our Favorite Spartans of All Time Tournament. The name is still terrible (and probably changed from the first round) but it’s still a pandemic out there and frankly, you and I have better things to worry about than thinking up a snappy name for this bracket challenge.
Some more big names went down in round two and we’re left with 16 of the most popular Michigan State Spartans of all time. This is when the real heavyweight matchups begin.
Without further ado, it’s time for the Sweet 16 in the Mateen Cleaves region.
No. 1 Mateen Cleaves vs. No. 4 Le’Veon Bell
Mateen Cleaves makes four of four one seeds that have cruised into the Sweet 16. He easily dispatched the No. 8 seeded Max Bullough in round two.
Cleaves faces a stiff challenge in Le’Veon Bell with the winner getting a spot in the Elite 8. Bell defeated Charlie Bell by a wide margin in round two and now faces his stiffest test to date.
No. 2 Cassius Winston vs. No. 6 Shawn Respert
Cassius Winston flew past the late Mike Sadler in round two. As popular as Sadler was and is, Winston is going to be tough to stop in this tournament.
He takes on Shawn Respert who snuck by Scott Skiles by the thinnest of margins. This is a quality run for Respert, but now he faces the daunting task of trying to get by Cassius Winston.
