Hello and welcome to the Sweet 16 of our Favorite Spartans of All Time Tournament. The name is still terrible (and probably changed from the first round) but it’s still a pandemic out there and frankly, you and I have better things to worry about than thinking up a snappy name for this bracket challenge.
Some more big names went down in round two and we’re left with 16 of the most popular Michigan State Spartans of all time. This is when the real heavyweight matchups begin.
Without further ado, it’s time for the Sweet 16 in the Magic Johnson region.
No. 1 Magic Johnson vs. No. 4 Denzel Valentine
Our top overall seed Magic Johnson breezed into the Sweet 16 with a massive win over Steve Smith. Magic has been the most dominant force in the tournament so far.
His first big challenge comes in the form of Denzel Valentine. We’ve got two of the greatest Spartan point guards ever going at it in this one. Valentine punched his ticket with a convincing win over Jeremy Langford in round two.
No. 2 Drew Neitzel vs. No. 3 Javon Ringer
After a slightly sluggish start Drew Neitzel romped his way to the Sweet 16 with a big win over Shannon Brown. I thought Neitzel might have been a little vulnerable, but he made easy work of his round two opponent.
Javon Ringer also picked up a comfortable win in round two. Ringer bested former Spartan linebacker and tackling machine Greg Jones to get to the Sweet 16.
