Hello and welcome to the Sweet 16 of our Favorite Spartans of All Time Tournament. The name is still terrible (and probably changed from the first round) but it’s still a pandemic out there and frankly, you and I have better things to worry about than thinking up a snappy name for this bracket challenge.
Some more big names went down in round two and we’re left with 16 of the most popular Michigan State Spartans of all time. This is when the real heavyweight matchups begin.
Without further ado, it’s time for the Sweet 16 in the Kirk Cousins region.
No. 1 Kirk Cousins vs. No. 4 Charles Rogers
Kirk Cousins got a huge win over eight-seeded Kenny Willekes in round two. Cousins has been dominant thus far in his first two matchups.
His next opponent is perhaps the most talented man to ever don a green and white Michigan State football uniform. Charles Rogers got by Kalin Lucas in round two and after a close first round matchup, finds himself up against Kirk Cousins in the Sweet 16.
No. 2 Connor Cook vs. No. 3 TJ Duckett
Connor Cook just edged out Miles Bridges in round two to move to the Sweet 16. Despite leading Michigan State to an historic three-year run from 2013-15, Cook has struggled to get through the first two rounds.
Could TJ Duckett upset Cook and get into the Elite Eight? He picked up a big win over Kenny Goins in round two and his margins of victory have been bigger than Cook’s. Was that a matter of opponent or do Spartan fans like Duckett more?
