Hello and welcome to round two of our Favorite Spartans of All Time Tournament. The name is still terrible (and probably changed from the first round) but it’s still a pandemic out there and frankly, you and I have better things to worry about than thinking up a snappy name for this bracket challenge.
We had some upsets in round one, but the chalk held pretty steady across the board. That sets up a ton of big matchups in round two.
Let’s not waste any time and get into voting on the Draymond Green region.
You can vote on the Magic Johnson region here.
You can vote on the Kirk Cousins region here.
No. 1 Draymond Green vs. No. 8 Tony Lippett
One of the tournament favorites, Draymond Green eased his way into the second round. Tony Lippett scored a convincing 8 vs. 9 matchup over Jeff Smoker. Can Lippett pose a threat to Green?
No. 3 Morris Peterson vs. No. 6 Andre Rison
Out of all of the non-number one seeds, Mo Pete might have the best shot at this tournament. He dominated Sedrick Irvin in the first round. Andre Rison won the battle of the Andre’s taking down Hutson by a comfortable margin.
No. 4 Plaxico Burress vs. No. 5 Antonio Smith
All of the 4 vs. 5 matchups in this tournament are really tough. Here’s another one with two beloved Spartans. Burress vs. Smith. Who ya got?
No. 7 Kirk Gibson vs. No. 15 Xavier Tillman Sr.
Recency bias is a hell of a drug. Xavier Tillman Sr. scored the upset of the tournament, knocking off one of, if not the, greatest football players in Michigan State history in Lorenzo White. He now takes on do-it-all legend Kirk Gibson, who scored a solid win over Felton Davis III in round one.
