A luxury accessories retailer which once made ceremonial swords and guns for French royalty, but today is well-known for handbags, has signed a deal to open its first UK shop on Bond Street.

The Evening Standard has learned that Parisian bag maker Fauré Le Page will open a 2500 sq ft store next year at 26 New Bond Street.

The company was founded in 1717, but its heavy push into luxury bags only came around a decade ago. The creative director is Augustin de Buffevent.

Commitment to open in London comes despite political and economic uncertainty here.

Anthony Selwyn is head of London and international retail at property agent Savills which advised the Hong Kong landlord on the letting. He said: “Bond Street remains key to global representation for high end retailers. We anticipate more brands will look to open stores in 2020.”

Selwyn added: “Fauré Le Page will be a fantastic addition to this prime location on Bond Street.”
