Fauldhouse United boss Chris Mackie delighted with derby day win at West Calder

Fauldhouse United gaffer Chris Mackie, taking charge of his first competitive game for the club, was thrilled as his side struck late to take the opening day win with a 2-1 victory against local rivals West Calder United at Hermand Park..

Craig Johnstone had given the visitors the lead on the stroke of half-time but they were pegged back early in the second half as Jamie Booth equalised on 51 minutes.

The match looked set to end in a draw but the Hoose found a late winner as substitute Jake Hughes struck as the game was set to tick into injury-time.

Mackie said: "It was great to be back playing competitive football again and to get the three points away from home in the first game is brilliant.

“We knew to expect a very difficult game and that’s what we got. West Calder were a good side and difficult to break down.

“It was a bit of a heavy pitch that wasn’t conducive to how we want to play but the players really stuck at it and it was a real quality move that got us the winning goal.”
