Fauldhouse United boss challenges team to continue climbing table following win over Stoneyburn

Fauldhouse United manager Colin Hendry has challenged his side to keep climbing the table.

The Hoose jumped above West Lothian rivals Stoneyburn and into seventh place in the East of Scotland Conference X with a 3-1 home win over the Fulshie on Saturday.

The visitors went into the break in front but a second-half brace from Connor Scullion was added to by Kieran Kinnaird to turn things around for Hendry’s side.

Now, two months into the gig, the new gaffer is aiming to rise up the table and wants to build a solid platform at the club for next season.

Talking about how tough the game was, he said: “The conditions were brutal. My feet were like blocks of ice by full-time.

“It wasn’t a day for great football to be honest, but we were able to grind out the result and we took our chances.

“It was a frustrating first-half and we were behind at the break but it was one of those games where I felt that if we could get our first one then we would get a couple more and thankfully that’s what happened.”

Giving praise to their opponents, Hendry added: “Stoneyburn are a decent team and they made it hard for us.

“They were really difficult to break down and Matty Craig is a terrific young goalkeeper who made some great saves for them.

“It was three points in the bag and sometimes that’s all you can ask for because it can be a battle at times in the winter months and you can struggle to play decent football.”

He added: “We want to see if we can climb up the league and pick up as many wins as possible, with half an eye on building towards next season.

“I don’t want us to be scrambling about trying to sign folk in the summer if I can avoid it.”

Hendry also told how he is loving life in the dugout of his local side, saying: “It’s a job that I’m really enjoying and I have got a great group of lads to work with.

“I am pretty confident that we can continue to move upwards.”

The Hoose take on promotion-chasing Bo’ness Athletic on Saturday, which Hendry knows will be a difficult challenge for his side.

He commented: “It’s going to be a good test for us, but we will go into it with confidence.

“We will give it our all to try to get a result and keep that positive momentum going.”
