Father-to-be who died after being hit by a car in Aberdare has been named by police

The family of a man who died after being hit by a car in Aberdare have said he was "so excited" about becoming a dad.

Richard Jones, who was known to many at Richie J, died in hospital surrounded by his family after just after 12.30am on Sunday (June 9).

The 34-year-old, from Cwmbach, was involved in a crash with a Citroen car and was taken to the University Hospital of Wales.

Following his death, his family released a tribute through South Wales Police.

They said the support they had received from friends had been a "great comfort" to them.

Their statement said: "The partner, parents, sister and family of Richard Alun Jones would like to inform every one of the tragic accident that led to his death.

"We are truly devastated and this tragedy has left a huge hole in all of our lives. 

"Richie lived life to the full and was a vibrant and fun person. He had so much more to give and was so excited for his future as a dad.

"It has been a great comfort to us all to receive so many caring and supportive messages from his many, many friends. “
