Father Ted stamps launched as Pauline McLynn says co-stars would be 'over the moon' with honour

Pauline McLynn believes her Father Ted co-stars would be “over the moon” knowing
their characters are now immortalised on stamps.

The actress stepped out to launch An Post’s set of four fun designs marking 25 years of the legendary sitcom.

The stamps feature iconic one-liners linked to each of the four main characters: Father Dougal’s: “That’s mad, Ted”, Fr Jack’s: “That would be an ecumenical matter”, Mrs Doyle’s: “Will you have a cup of tea Father?” and Father Ted’s now infamous: “That money was just resting in my account”.

Pauline, 58, told the Irish Mirror: “I arrived like a child at Christmas, what an honour.

“Twenty five years, how can it be, where did the time go?

“Two of the fab four are gone, Ted and Jack, Dermot Morgan and Frank Kelly.

“I know the lads would be over the moon with these stamps.

“They’ll never be dead commemorated on the series and now on a stamp.

“That must be a double-edged sword for anyone who’s related to people in showbiz, you can see them all the time, Dermot died very young, he’ll always be young and beautiful and always be
brilliant.

“He’s the only Father Ted you could imagine, the same with Frank, what a character, they’ll always be there.

“One of the people who was mad keen on writing to people, was Brendan Grace. As you know he played evil Father Fintan Stack, the horrible priest.

“He was a great man for sending cards and letters to people, shortly before he died, I had been talking about him on the radio, saying he was a big part of me growing up in the West of Ireland. One of his characters Bottler was a huge favourite and we all thought Brendan was the funniest man.

“He wrote to me to say he was listening to that, thanks very much, he believed in sending letters and cards to people.

“In that spirit I think we should all be doing it, and if he saw that there was Father Ted stamps, you can be sure, he’d be sending loads more letters off.”

And the star actress has revealed she’ll do her “darndest” to land a major role in the Young Offenders after wowing audiences with her cameo performance on the hit show.

Pauline told the Irish Mirror: “I had one of the greatest days of my life out playing with them, I’m a huge fan of the series.

“I love Cork so everything was great about that day, as I was leaving I just said tell the writer I have ideas, I don’t have to come back as this character.

“I could be heavily disguised elsewhere, I’ll do my darndest to get into that I can tell you.”
