Father takes away mobile phone, Class XI girl ends life in Gujarat's Morbi district

RAJKOT: A 16-year-old girl died by suicide after she was reprimanded by her father who took away her mobile phone as she was spending excessive time on the gadget.

The student, Madhvi Dalwadi, hanged herself at her house in Devipur village of Halvad taluka in Morbi district on June 18.

Her father Mahesh Dalwadi, 40, a farmer, told police that Madhvi had scored 57% in Class X and started studying in Class XI.

Despite scoring less marks, she was constantly engaged on her mobile phone.

He scolded the daughter and took away the phone from her.

Dalwadi told police that his intention was that she concentrate on her studies instead of wasting time on the mobile phone. Halvad police has lodged a case of accidental death under CrPC 174.
