Father-son argument ends in murder charge

Feb. 25--An argument between a father and his 18-year-old son escalated into gun violence and ended in a murder charge this week, authorities said.

Anderson Edward Lyiscott was charged Tuesday with one count of murder in the fatal shooting of his son Giovanni Lyiscott. Anderson Lyiscott had been arguing with his son in their Carson home Saturday when the teenager locked himself in his room, Deputy Dist. Atty. R.J. Dreiling said in a statement.

Details about the argument were not released.

The boy's father reportedly armed himself with a gun, shot at the door handle to his son's room and entered, and the two engaged in a struggle, the prosecutor said.

During the fight, the gun went off and Giovanni Lyiscott was shot in the chest, the prosecutor said. He was taken to the hospital and died.

The shooting occurred about 6:15 p.m. in the 17400 block of Prondall Court. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation.

If convicted as charged, Lyiscott could face a maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison.

In an interview with the Daily Breeze, Lyiscott's other son, Taron Lyiscott, said his father would have never intentionally harmed Giovanni.

"He loved him," Taron Lyiscott said. "I know my dad, and my dad worshipped Giovanni."
