Father's horror find after shopping trip

A Melbourne father discovered the bodies of his wife and daughters in their home while paramedics were in his kitchen trying to revive his son.

Tomislav Perinovic returned from grocery shopping to find three-year-old Matthew with stab wounds in the kitchen of their Tullamarine home last month.

A Victorian coroner was told at an inquest directions hearing on Wednesday that Mr Perinovic called an ambulance for help around lunchtime on January 14.

Paramedics raced to to the scene in Melbourne's northern suburbs and the father-of-three watched on as they tried to revive the little boy.

They were unable and Matthew was declared dead at the scene.

While resuscitation efforts were underway Mr Perinovic went into another room, where he discovered the bodies of his daughters Claire, 7, and Anna, 5, and his wife Katica "Katie" Perinovic.

All three had upper body injuries consistent with knife wounds. A large kitchen knife was found nearby.

Homicide detectives say the evidence points to Ms Perinovic being responsible for all four deaths and an inquest will be held before Coroner Audrey Jamieson.

A brief of evidence being put together by homicide detective Luke Farrell is due to be handed over in June.
