Father pleads guilty to daughter's killing

Osman Shaptafaj, 56, has pleaded guilty to murdering his estranged daughter and her husband. (AAP)

A Melbourne father has admitted murdering his estranged daughter and son-in-law in a New Year's Eve shooting a year ago.

Yaraville woman Lindita Musai, 25, was shot and killed at her home on December 31, 2019 and her 29-year-old husband Veton died in hospital the following day.

On Wednesday Ms Musai's father Osman Shaptafaj, 56, admitted he had killed them both.

"I plead guilty," he said when asked in the Supreme Court about both murder charges.

Shaptafaj's lawyers had indicated last month that he intended to plead guilty, but earlier this month he sacked them and hired a new legal team.

Last May he formally pleaded not guilty to charges, with discussions about defences of mental impairment or his fitness to face trial.

Shaptafaj is due to face court for a pre-sentence hearing on May 7.
