Father of tragic Edinburgh toddler Xander Irvine urges locals to light a candle in his memory

Edinburgh locals are being asked to light a candle following the death of "happy and bubbly" toddler Xander, who was killed in a tragic accident in Morningside earlier this year.

A 91 year-old woman was arrested following the fatal Morningside Road crash. The three-year-old passed away from his injuries after being struck by a car while out walking with his mum.

Now the father of Xander is urging locals to light a candle this Thursday at 7pm as part of a 'wave of light' charity event that marks the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week.

Paul Irvine asked people to take part in the event for baby loss charity 'Held In Our Hearts' who he said helped him through the tragic loss of the toddler.

He wrote online, "This is a post to announce the charity 'Held In Our Hearts' annual event 'Wave of Light'.

"Lighting a candle at 7pm on the 15th for all the babies and toddlers taken too early.

"They have been counselling me since our 3 year old son Xander was killed on Morningside road just over three months ago.

"They are so supportive and I hope some of the local community will join me in lighting a candle for Xander and all the children and babies taken too soon."

If you want to take part in the event this Thursday, you can find out more about it here.
