Father-of-three caught with cannabis he used to ease pain

A father-of-three had been using cannabis to ease pain after a back injury as a child, a court heard.

Reece Mitchell told his lawyer the reason he had the cannabis was he had a injury as a child to his back and never really had it looked at.

As it got worse as he got older, he used cannabis on the odd occasion to ease the pain, Nottingham Magistrates' Court heard.

Mitchell, 26, of of Flaxton Way, Top Valley, pleaded guilty to possessing cannabis in Moor Road, Bestwood, on November 26, 2019.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said on that date, just after 5pm in the Bestwood Park area, police pursued a vehicle.

No charge was brought in relation to that chase, he added.

"What has happened, after a small foot chase, after the vehicle came to a stop, a small amount of cannabis was found on Reece Mitchell which led to arrest and interview," said Mr Pietryka. "He spoke about being in the car at the time and said the cannabis was for his own personal use".

Mr Pietryka asked for forfeiture and destruction of the drug.

Mitchell was conditionally discharged for 12 months, ordered to pay a victim surcharge and prosecution costs of £85.
