Ireland star Shane Duffy is mourning the sudden death of his father Brian this evening.
Brian, a native of Ard O'Donnell in Letterkenny, passed away suddenly at his Derry home aged 53. He had three children, sons Shane, who plays for Brighton in the Premier League, Tony, and daughter Nicola. He is also survived by his wife, Siobhan, sisters Jackie and Michelle, and brother Mark.
Brian previously told in 2017 that their son Shane had fulfilled a life-long ambition in becoming a Premier League footballer.
He told the Irish Independent: "He's just a real good character and this is everything he's ever wanted.
"He always wanted to play for Ireland on the big stage, he always wanted to play in the Premier League against the big players, he's always wanted this.
"We supported him every step of the way and everything that we could ever do for him we did.
"The rewards are fantastic but I always say to him enjoy the highs because the lows are just around the corner and that's football for you. It's just a tough, tough place to be."
