Father of bride rushed to hospital after being found injured and 'blue in the face' at wedding

The father of a bride was taken to hospital in a serious condition after being found injured at a wedding .

Paul Anderson is understood to have been “blue in the face” when he was found by staff at the Marriott Hotel in Dyce, Aberdeen , on Saturday, where he had been celebrating the marriage of his daughter Demi and her partner Mikey Edwards.

Police were last night probing whether he had been the victim of an assault or involved in an accident.

One source told how doors to the Pitmedden Suite where the reception was held were closed as an incident developed in an adjoining section of the hotel at around 10.30pm, while entertainers were told to “keep the children distracted”.

The dad is said to have been found lying injured near some stairs and was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by emergency crews.

The bride, who had earlier enjoyed a dance with her father, is understood to have followed paramedics in a taxi.

A source said: “When I went outside the room I was shocked. There were about six police officers, the whole area had been cordoned off by police and guests were giving statements to police.

“One of the staff had found him at the top of the stairs and his face was blue. It was a complete mystery as to how and why it happened.

“It really shocked people and they just couldn’t have a party after that.”

Emergency services were called to the Marriott at around 10.50pm.

Police were not able to confirm how the man was injured last night and said an investigation was ongoing.

Sergeant Rory Campbell said: “Enquiries are currently ongoing into the circumstances surrounding how this man came to be injured - further information will be issued in due course if necessary.

“I would like to thank all those who have helped with our enquiries so far and to staff at the hotel for their assistance.”

The Marriott has been contacted for comment.
