Father of baby killed in Ardoyne thanks community for support at vigil in his memory

The father of two-month-old Liam O’Keefe who was killed in Ardoyne on Tuesday has said he is "truly heartbroken" as he thanked the local community for their support.

Speaking at a vigil held in the infant’s memory on Thursday, Liam O’Keefe Snr gave an emotional speech as the community gathered with blue balloons to mourn the child’s death.

Addressing the large group of neighbours and tight-knit Ardyone community, Mr O'Keefe expressed his appreciation for the love and support he has received over the last few days.

He said: “To all the neighbours and the full community for all their help and support, I really appreciate it all.

“Holding this vigil means the world to me. I am truly heartbroken but it gives me the strength to know you are all giving so much love and support.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Prayers were also offered up by a local priest outside the property in Brompton Park for both Liam and the other child who is currently in hospital and the PSNI have described as being in a stable condition.

Detective Chief Inspector Millar said: "A 29-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder has now been released from hospital and transferred to police custody for questioning.

"The other young child injured during this incident remains in hospital where her condition is described as stable.

"I would like to thank the local community for their unwavering support and patience while we continue our investigation into the tragic events of Tuesday evening and I continue to ask that anyone who has any information to contact us on 101 quoting reference number 1787 of 27/07/21."
