Father charged with kidnapping 2-year-old daughter on Christmas Eve

Dec. 30--A father who triggered a frantic search in Los Angeles after he disappeared with his 2-year-old daughter during a supervised visit on Christmas Eve has been charged with kidnapping the girl, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

Jack Perry, 31, is due in court Wednesday afternoon on one charge of kidnapping and one count of stealing his daughter Lucia from her mother and custodial parent at The Grove on Dec. 24. He's being held on $1 million bail and could face up to 14 years in prison if convicted.

Perry and his daughter were outside the Barnes Noble store at the Fairfax district shopping center around 5 p.m. Thursday when the person monitoring their visit lost sight of them, according to an LAPD release.

Lucia's parents are going through a divorce, and the girl usually lives with her mother, police said.

After the girl and her father vanished, police pleaded for help from the public and distributed fliers around town. On Monday, a person in Palm Springs saw the pair near an apartment and alerted police.

Perry had allegedly used a fake name to rent the apartment and was taken into custody without incident, police said. Lucia, who was unharmed, was reunited with her mother.
